By becoming a Spirit of Women member, your healthcare organization joins an elite network of hospitals united by nationally recognized standards of excellence in women’s health.
Developed in consultation with The Office on Women’s Health, the Spirit of Women National Standards of Excellence assist hospitals in measuring the impact of their women’s health programming from an educational and gender-specific service approach. By investing in Spirit, your hospital sends a clear message to your community that you are dedicated to raising the bar in women's health.
New hospitals are required to meet a minimum of 50% of the Standards within the first two years of membership. The Standards target the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in women and also provide a framework for wellness and prevention that is guided by the national wellness platform of Healthy People 2010. Member hospitals actively seek to meet and are annually assessed on benchmark criteria in the following seven areas of focus:
Integration of a Focused Community Assessment
Implementation of Comprehensive Life Stage Programming
Sensitivity to Community Diversity and Cultural Differences
Strategic Alignment of Women’s Service Lines
Leading Innovation and Outreach Initiatives
Managing a Process for Quality Improvement

Results demonstrate innovation and excellence in women’s programming across the network and bring national attention to the participating network member hospitals.
